The 100 Book – Top 10 differences in book and TV show

The 100 book is the idea behind the series The 100 was created. The series has almost everything covered which is written in the book but there are some of the aspects where there is a difference in the narration of the book and the actual series. We are listing down some of the differences we came across.

  1. Clarke Griffin 

In the show, Clarke is the clear protagonist of the series. A fearless character and leader of the 100 this is an upgrade from the books where she is a forming character and takes on less of the leadership. Her earlier interests were Finn and her parents. Clarke is shown as badass in the series whereas not in the books

  1. The war between Grounders and Sky People

The clash between the survivor of the arc and the earth people is one of the driving interest of the show. It allows the series to dramatice the series related to discrimination, colonialism, how fear can confound hostilities. While this is also seen in the book when the Earthborn attacks the 100s, the war between them taken on a more central role which give opportunity show more characters.

  1. Wells is still alive

As you know Wells is an very important character throughout the novels and also leader of the hundred. He and Clarke dated up in the space colony before wells action to of execution of her parents. He then sabotage the whole space station to save Clarke form the same fate. Wells who got killed of in the show’s 3rd episode the readers who of this book would have been shocked after seeing his death. Leaving Clarke and Bellamy to fill his shoe as a leader.

  1. ALLIE and the city of light

Allie the artificial intelligence responsible for the nuclear Armageddon that scourred the earth. She the main villain in the season 3 but to your surprise her character is not mentioned in the book at all. All seeks to inducts the survivors  into a virtual world to wait out for second nuclear disaster. She put Clarke and company in the difficult position to choose between a peace life inside a shared simulation or the freedom to experience suffering too. 

  1. Missing in Action

Some of the main character didn’t come out from page to screen, the action of the book is told by the eyes of 4 main point of view characters. Clarke, Wells, Bellamy and Glass. In the books Glass provides perspective of events in the space colony throught out the 1st and 2nd books but he is missing in the series.

  1. Multiple Faces of Ballemy blake

In the show Ballemy is an ambivalent character who’s pragmatic and ruthless actions are sometimes an asset to the 100 but sometime it put him down. His human side is dedicated to his sister Octavia. Ballemy in book is a hot head character but he is also sympathetic and kind of ladies men. In books there is a love triangle between Him, Wells and Clarke.

  1. Clarke’s Parents

Clarkes relationship with is parents is a sore point both in series and book. In the show only Clarke’s mother remains alive.

  1. Mount Weather

Mount Weather emergency operation center a few human survived the nuclear attack that takes before the series and In book this earth borns protect the 100s from a hostile renegade faction.

With help of Clarke and Company the mount weather people defend themself against the real villain but the TV series all of this unable to leave Mount weather due to radiation the earth born survior holds the 100s prisoner an attempt ot harvest the radiation resistent bone marrow experience.

  1. Octavia’s Past

In both books and show Octavia is a illegal second child who grows up hidden by the family but in the book it gets like whole lot darker. Fearing execution her mothers try to strangle her to death then commits sucide now because of this Octavia becomes addicted to sleeping pills in a orphanage. 

  1. New Characters

Fans who have not read the books would be surprised that the pivotal characters Raven, Finn, Murphy, jasper and Monty are all introduced in the TV series. In some cases elements of the roles or personality are based on the characters found in the novels for example Linkin’s character replaces an earth foreign girl from the book called Sasha who like him and forms a relationship with one of the 100. Laksa on the other hand the bad commander who has great relationship with Clarke wasn’t in the book at all but still managed to make an entry in the series and made a huge impact on viewers.
